Special Guest

On Wednesday, we were very lucky, because some of our Year 5s and Year 6s spent the day with Donovan Christopher, a poet. And they were joined by pupils from Pipworth Community Primary School, Woodlands Primary School and Anns Grove Primary School.

Donavan Christopher, aka, RAPPAMAN

Donavan has been writing poetry seriously for the past 20 years as a tool for self – expression and to tackle social problems via the sports participation and cultural equality (SPACE) Organization and Authors Abroad. Donavan is a reading champion who teaches children respect and social values. For more information click here.

The children started off by speaking about aiming high and what this means. They then wrote a poem about aiming high following a “a to the b to the c” structure. Afterwards, they each made an alphabetical list of words that describe themselves. During the afternoon session, the children worked in groups to create a poem/rap about what success is.

Throughout the day, the adults and children read poems aloud from Donovan’s books.

Toochi: liked the reading challenges that Donovan got the children to read.

Fogo: I thought it was good how when Donovan helped groups to make the poem/rap flow, he broke it down into steps efficiently.

Sarina & Amanda: We enjoyed working in a group to write a rap in the afternoon all about success.

All: Thank you Donavan for a great day!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to all our pupils and families. What a sunny start to our new school year!

I sincerely hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer holiday and I know all the staff here at school have tried their best to make you all feel very welcome and settled. We know how it can feel to start a new year so the team have been busy in the holidays planning and preparing some exciting activities for all our pupils.

I’ve visited all our classrooms to see everyone enjoying the learning and I’ve been so impressed with the knowledge you have remembered since July! It’s great to know that you haven’t let it just wash away. All our children have come back remembering all our rules and routines too! For me our school is at its best when it is filled with the wonderful children we have in our school.
