Welcome Back!

It’s a new school year and the weather has been so very kind to us. The children have returned settled and eager to please. All our children have remembered all the school rules and it’s been a delight to see how mature they have become. Before the holidays we had a professional photographer to capture our children learning around school. I’m including some photographs in this first Blog of the year.

Since we’ve started we’ve had lots of events. Children are celebrating Roald Dahl Day today by dressing up in their favourite characters. See the Class Blogs for specific photos of that. School visits are booked in this month with Y6s planning on visiting Eden Camp to support their World War II project. Loads of our children have signed themselves up to attend the many after school clubs. It’s great to see new faces joining Razzamataz theatre club, Rugger Eds (Rugby Club with the professionals), Athletics Club, Gaming Club, Yoga Club and more besides.

This week, children have been applying for the many schools jobs on offer. Trophy Polishing, Plant Watering, Playground Buddies, Office Assistants, Attendance Officers and Lunchtime Assistants are always popular and in demand. In addition, pupils have been voting for the new School Council this week. We have brand new representatives to continue to give a pupil voice in our democratic school. This shows how dedicated and committed our children are to making our school the Team Prince that it is.

Finally, a brand new Pride of Prince Edward will be announced in assembly later today. Who will it be?

Children’s University

Here at Prince Edward, we encourage all our children to take part in out of school activities which can earn Children’s University credits. The more credits a child earns, the higher ranked the badge and certificate. We have children who have earned Ruby Gold, and Ruby Platinum certificates for totaling many, many hours of activities.

Here are two photos from the recent Children’s University Awards Ceremony which took place on Thursday 14th March in the Pennine Lecture Theatre at Sheffield Hallam University.

Nursery Nativity

Here at Prince Edward Primary we love celebrations. At this time of year there is lots to celebrate! All our year groups do something to celebrate. Y5 and Y6 visit the local church and sing to the parishioners. We invite the elderly in to our school and give them a Christmas dinner and carol concert. Younger children show parents and families their plays and performances. Our youngest pupils (just 3 and 4 years old) in Nursery this year made a film to tell the story of the birth of baby Jesus. This is one of my favourite versions of the Christmas Story. Take a look:

Healthy Living Week

Here at Prince Edward, we take part in lots of events and themed weeks. Just before the half term holiday, the whole school got involved in Healthy Living Week and everyone got stuck in! I can’t thank the teachers enough for the activities they planned and the visitors they arranged to come in. The children loved Healthy Living Week and showed me just how active they really are!

Children enjoyed circuit training in the school hall. Just look at some of the activities they did.

Outside at break time, children used special bikes with food blenders attached, and made healthy smoothies. The faster they pedalled, the smoother the smoothie!

Children took part in yoga class. This improves flexibility, bone health, blood flow and perfects posture.

Children enjoyed boxing!

A doctor was even invited in to talk to children about healthy lifestyles and the things doctors do.
