French

Y3 Sapphire

Each week we have a French lesson with Monsieur Barthélémy. We have been learning lots of French vocabulary including phrases that allows us to have a simple conversation.

We have recently learnt the names of farm and domesticated animals. This week we have been learning the numbers 1-10.

Singing songs, listening to stories, repetition, and using actions helps us to memorise new words.

Markai: We learn lots of different words.

Lina: You get to learn lots of French words so when you grow up you speak French.

Lathen: I like the games we play.

This evening we have taken part in an exciting gem panning workshop.

We have all found lots of beautiful gems that we get to take home!

Here are a few comments about the workshop from Amber class:

“It felt nice to sort through the sand and find the gems.”

“I liked collecting the gems and I love that I can take them home!”

“There were so many rare stones and I enjoyed finding them.”

Here are some pictures of Jade class enjoying their workshop!

Castleton Day 2

Jade class

It’s been a full day of activities for the intrepid explorers from Y4.

Activity 1: The Three Rocks Walk

We saw some real life example of our learning in class as our guide from the YHA took us to see fossils, rivers and up Mam Tor.

Activity 2: Treak Cliff Cavern

The cave was wonderful with our guide showing us all Blue John worth millions of pounds and natural phenomena stalagmites and stalactites. In fact some were so close to meeting in the middle that we could see a stalagmite and stalactite join if we come back in 1200 years.

Evening Activity: Bingo and Gem Panning

The evening was very relaxing as we looked for gems hidden in the sand like old miners of Castleton.

Unfortunately, the millions of pounds of Blue John will be remaining underground and not joining us on our trip home tomorrow.
